Strength Gains Numbers

WeightsStrength and core training’s popularity is on the rise, according to the American College of Sports Medicine‘s annual survey of fitness trends. The report notes that both men and women are lifting weights to maintain strength as they age — we could’ve told them that, right? Another very encouraging sign: Programs designed to fight childhood obesity, like the fantastic Team For Kids, are also on the rise. Still, from the way Spin classes are full and treadmills have waiting lists, I’d bet that cardio will continue its popularity streak for at least a little while longer.

Have you found yourself doing more strength training in the past few years? Or maybe you don’t do any at all. Have you seen a difference in results when strength training was part (or all) of your fitness plan? Post a comment and let us know what you think.
