Drop And Give Me Tabby

This CNN piece suggests that using pets as workout partners is an awesome idea. I agree, in theory. If you have a cat that actually does what you want it to when you want it to, I’d love to see it…

Someone get this cat to a Zumba class!

Where Have Your Buns Been?

Can I get a big woo-hoo-hey-now for Rosalie and Stephanie, two Haulers who ran the Tenafly 5K this past weekend? Though they are not standing in the official HB stance (we’ll let it slide just this once), they look awesome after finishing strong! Those medals suit you, ladies!

“On second thought, I’ll have the side salad, thanks.”

friedThe Center for Science in the Public Interest released this year’s Xtreme Eating Awards this week. The nutritional watchdog group rounds up the highest-calorie offenders at national chains and lets us know exactly what’s going on underneath their crispy exteriors and buttered buns. I don’t want to be a buzzkill, because I know I wouldn’t want to live in a world where nothing was ever batter-coated and then fried to deep golden perfection, but the nutritional info on some of these items is really gross. Take The Cheesecake Factory’s Fried Macaroni and Cheese, which clocks in at 1,570 calories and 69 grams of saturated fat or Chili’s Big Mouth bites, a four-burger plate that adds up to 2,350 calories, 38 grams of saturated fat and — start pouring that water now — 3,940 miligrams of sodium. Yeesh.

Haul Buns Run!

In honor of National Running Day, I’m going to go for a little run before class at Feminine Fitness tonight. I’d love some company! If you’re interested, meet me at Feminine Fitness (34 Commerce Way, Hackensack – across from Applebee’s) at 6 p.m. And if you’re a FemFit member, stay for Intro Step/Step I at 7!

If you want to give me a heads-up that you’re coming, that would be cool. Or you can just show up. Either way, hope to see you tonight!

Do These Pixels Make My Butt Look Big?

wii-fitForget Nintendo Wii’s Mii figures: Pretty soon, the little dude or dudette hopping around your videogame screen will actually be you.

Devotees of the Nintendo Wii are familiar with the system’s Mii avatars, little virtual figures each player creates to represent them in various games. Now, a French videogame company is creating a game that actually shows your own body on screen. The Your Shape game, designed for the Wii, “uses a camera to scan players’ bodies and replicate them on screen, where a virtual trainer coaches them through exercise routines,” writes the AFP. Going even farther along the path Nintendo forged with its Wii Fit program, which has gotten company lately in EA Sports Active for the Wii, Your Shape players will get feedback in real time and can see results on screen — which might be even more incentive to get healthy than looking in the mirror.

Your Shape is set for an end-of-the-year release.

Words To Work Out By

running1I’m loving The New York Times’ online Running Voices series, in which ordinary people share their thoughts on running. And by far, my favorite observation posted to the series’ comments section so far is this pearl by a viewer named Allison, who describes herself as going “from couch potato to runner:”

“Always remember that Dead Freakin’ Last is better than Did Not Finish which is way better than Did Not Start.”

Amen, sister!
